The hamburger is as American as apple pie. It’s hard to pin down the actual inventor because, well, with something as yummy as a hamburger everybody wants to say they thought of it. But much like a lot of Americans, it can trace its roots back to Hamburg, Germany where the Hamburg sausage sandwich started what many agree was the start of the whole bun filling tastiness that is the American burger.
There are a number of people claiming to have invented the American burger as we know it. They all hail from different parts of the US and all started around the same time. One from Texas, there is one from Connecticut and another from Wisconsin, there are probably more but since no one is sure, let’s talk about something else. But before we go, one interesting tidbit I did pick up was the first restaurant menu in which a hamburger showed up on was Delmonico’s in New York in the late 1800’s.
