It wasn’t until I moved to beautiful Bakersfield that I learned about the Christmas Tamale. I found out shortly after moving here that the tamale is the tasty relative to the other Christmas traditional food like the fruitcake or egg nog.
Yes the winter holiday season which is nearly upon us is the time of tamales. The tamale is actually part of the Mexican celebration of Las Posadas which commemorates Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter on the eve of the birth of Jesus. And in case you haven’t ever had the chance to partake of these delicious morsels, the tamale is (corn) masa and meat wrapped in a corn husk and then steamed. Yummy! Makes me hungry just writing that sentence.
